Lots of day-to-day ministries at St Mary's are essential to our life as a church, but don't require you to be at a Sunday service.
Behind the Scenes
On Sundays, Children's ministry is provided (outisde of Covid-19 restrictions) during our weekly 9.30am Holy Communion Service. We also have voluteers who help to lead Messy Church activities on the 4th Sunday of each month at 4pm, and help out at Breakfast church on second sundays during the main service.
All of our Children's Ministry helpers are Advanced DBS checked. This is a vital requirement for anyone who wishes to join the team, as safeguarding an integral part of our church life.
We have a wonderful team of Flower Arrangers who keep St Mary's looking bright and welcoming to everyone who walks through the doors throughout the week, as well as helping to create an extra special environment at Harvest, Christmas and Easter, they do an incredible job and are also available to decorate the church for Weddings on request.
Cleaners help keep the church ready for visitors, by cleaning the whole building and polishing the brass.
Parochial Church Council Members (PCC)
The PCC act on behalf of the whole church to oversee the day to day running of the Church, and the maintenance and upkeep of the building. The PCC is made up of the Vicar and Clergy, Church Wardens, Treasurer, Secretary, Deanery Synod representatives and other elected members from the congregation. There are also sub-committees from this group. We meet every other month.
Deanery Synod Representatives
Deanery Synod representatives serve the church by representing our church family within the broader context of the local deanery (area), which is called Dorchester Deanery.
Church Wardens, alongisde the Vicar, oversee the day-to-day running of the church as well as the maintenance and upkeep of the building.
Our Vergers help by readying the church for weekly services, weddings, baptisms and funerals. They manage all of the vestments and fabrics, as well as the contents of the Vestry.
